The globetrotting Criterion (NZ) (Sebring {Aus}), third in the G1 Melbourne Cup Nov. 3 and a winner of the G1 Caulfield S. and the G1 Queen Elizabeth S. this year, tuned up for the Dec. 13 G1 Hong Kong Cup at Sha Tin with a sharp 1400-meter move (here) in company with stablemate Orator (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) at Moonee Valley Saturday, reported Racing and Sports. Jockey Craig Williams was aboard. Third in last year’s edition, co-trainer David Hayes is confident the four-time Group 1 winner will improve off last year’s run.
“I know him now, a year later on,” Hayes told Racing and Sports. “This time we’ve had him all the way through with Hong Kong in the back of our minds, providing he was well. He’s never sent a message that he’s not in form. I’m happy with him and I can coast with him in Hong Kong now.”
